Shofar Tones שׁוֹפָר

Support

Shofar Tones is a shofar you can play: the five calls, every note from D4 to G5, a sequencer, and seven places to blow it. Inside the app, How to use it at the top explains every part.

A support email address is on its way. Until then, the questions below cover the common ones.

Questions

How do I add it in GarageBand?
Add a track and choose External, then Audio Unit Extensions, then Shofar Tones. Tap its name at the top of the keyboard to open its screen.
And in AUM, Logic Pro, Cubasis or Loopy Pro?
Add it as an instrument (in AUM: tap + on a channel, then Audio Unit Instruments) and send your MIDI keyboard to it.
Which keys play the calls?
C2 to G2: Tekiah, Shevarim, Teruah, Tekiah Gedolah, Shevarim-Teruah. Every other key plays the horn at its own pitch. Tap MIDI keys at the top to see your whole keyboard and move any of them: tap Choose key, then press the key you want or tap it on the picture.
What are the keyswitches?
Silent keys, C1 to F1. Break, Slide and Crack change how the lips leap for everything you play next, calls included. Each call's own hands the calls back to their settings in Call articulation….
How do I make the calls fit my song's tempo?
Turn on Fit calls to the tempo. In a music app it follows the song's tempo; on its own it uses the app's tempo.
Why doesn't the sequencer play?
Inside a music app the pattern follows the song: press play in the music app. On its own, press Play pattern.
What do Horn, Nusach, Key and Free do?
They are the Scale, at the top of Play, and they set what the blow pad and the keys play. Horn: the shofar's own three notes. Nusach: a prayer mode (Ahavah Rabbah, Magen Avot or Adonai Malach) on a home note you choose. Key: major or minor. Free: any pitch. With Nusach or Key, the keyboard shows one named key per note of the scale; choose Piano above it for the whole keyboard instead.
Can I use an MPE or breath controller?
Yes. A breath controller (CC2), mod wheel, expression (CC11) and aftertouch all blow harder or softer. For a Seaboard, LinnStrument or Osmose, turn on MPE keyboard in MIDI keys. The pitch wheel's range, velocity response and tuning are there too.
Can I get the sequencer's notes into my DAW?
Two ways. Save as MIDI File, in the Sequencer, writes the pattern once or several times through. In a music app, Shofar Tones also sends the sequencer's notes out as MIDI: route its output to any instrument.
Does it need the internet?
No. Everything is inside the app. See Privacy.
